Stars and Models: How to Build and Maintain Star Schemas Using SAS Data Integration Server in SAS®9
نویسنده
چکیده
ABSTRACT Star schemas are used in data warehouses as the primary storage mechanism for dimensional data that is to be queried efficiently. Star schemas are the final result of the extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes that are used in building the data warehouse. Efficiently building the star schema is important, especially as the data volumes that are required to be stored in the data warehouse increase. This paper describes how to use the SAS Data Integration Server, which is the follow-on, next generation product to the SAS ETL Server, to efficiently build and maintain star schema data structures. A number of techniques in the SAS Data Integration Server are explained. In addition, considerations for advanced data management and performance-based optimizations are discussed.

Given the growing acceptance of the Internet and Intranet as enterprise application mediums and the need for client-server computing using open solutions, SAS Institute has recognized the need to leverage existing SAS/AF® functionality to Java clients. This paper attempts to explain how technologies developed by SAS Institute allow clients written in Java to exploit the data and compute power o...
متن کامل117-2010: The Power of User-Defined SAS® Code in SAS® Data Integration Studio
Extensive use of standard SAS® Data Integration Studio Transformations is often made when designing data warehouses, thereby reducing maintenance requirements and the need for user defined code. This paper instead advocates using the SAS Data Integration Studio API against user defined code. Thus using the full power of SAS to build and maintain warehouse processes may yield several advantages,...
متن کاملHow I Converted a Batch Application System to Client-Server and Lived to Tell About It
After years of using mainframe-based batch applications, though they were user-friendly, my users wanted something GUI, something that runs on their desktop, and something that interchanges with their MS-Windows applications. So, I set out to convert my batch application system to something my users wanted. Armed with the SAS System®, Base SAS, SAS/CONNECT®, SAS/AF®, SAS/FSP®, a TCP/IP connecti...
